When we were first assigned the blog project, I didn’t really know what to think. I did not know how I was going to get a following, what I was going to write about, and the amount of time it takes to produce a blog. What I have found out is blogging can be a great way to get your voice heard, tell the world what you’re passionate about, and have fun at the same time.
For me, this blog gave me a glimpse into what covering a sports team would be like. I had to find interesting things to talk about within the games, keep my followers up to date, and keep myself accountable on following the team. I am interested in the sports journalism field, so this blog was excellent practice for a career I would love to have. It didn’t matter if 5 or 500 people read my story, I simply enjoyed writing about the Bobcat baseball team. The blog made me pay attention to the season and feel connected to the team.
This blog really made me realize the impact social media can have on boosting your personal brand. I found Twitter to be a key instrument in promoting my blog and promoting my writing ability to my followers. I also think Storify is an excellent tool that can be used to build a story using social media. I would like to get better at making videos for YouTube and being able to code with HTML to enhance my site. I think both of those tools will boost my job-readiness and make me look great to future employers.
The hardest part of blogging was holding yourself accountable to make sure you kept posting. Consistency is key to creating a following, and getting into a rhythm of when I was going to post really helped me.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed having this blog. It gave me a taste of what a future career could be like, and it really helped me advance my presence on social media. I liked seeing the patterns of views I got when I posted a post with more pictures vs. more text and other things that led to more views.
